Maximum representative of Surrealism, he was born in Barcelona in 1893. His works reveal his admiration for Catalan culture and his interest in everything related to children.

Miró considered that traditional painting techniques were obstacles to progress toward modern artistic growth.

Created by Joan Miró, opens its doors in 1975 in Barcelona. A private collection establishes a space to investigate contemporary art and Miró. Since its opening, Joan Miró’s works have shared space with works of current artists.
In the museum, itinerant exhibitions of modern artists are organized, and academic activities with other establishments in the country. Admire the mercury fountain designed by Alexander Calder.

Josep Lluis Sert designed the building where the foundation is housed. The architect and the artist planned the environments where the works would be, creating a symbiosis between Miró and other contemporary artists of this century.

- The first stage was mainly with everyday objects and detailed rural life, also descriptive.
